While battling illness Koons managed to get an 'A' standard t his opening race of the Northern Hemisphere season in Munio, Finland. His score of 99.61 was enough to drop him under the 100 point qualifying requirement. The qualifying score of 100 is set by the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
"This wasn't the finish I was hoping for, but it got me what I needed," Koons said. "I'll take it."
Koons will join New Zealands other XC Skier, Katie Calder, who also qualified at the end of the 2008-09 Northern Hemisphere season.
